Startek Bpo To Hire Another 1,000 Employees

“StarTek has experienced significant growth in our Makati site. New program commitments from current telecommunications clients and new business opportunities have resulted in our expansion plans,” StarTek Ortigas chief Rod Spires said in a statement yesterday. StarTek’s second facility, which opened last week, can host 2,100 seats.

Mr. Spires said StarTek would be providing training opportunities in the United States to select employees as well as other benefits and financial incentives. The Philippine BPO industry was able to create an additional 70,000 jobs in 2009. The contact center sector had the most employees in 2009 with a total of 280,000 agents.

For 2009, the Philippine BPO industry was able to reach revenues of $7.2 billion, employing around 442,000 workers. This represented a 19% increase over 2008 revenues of $6.06 billion.

However, growth in 2009 was slower than in 2008, which saw revenues increase by 24% from 2007.

Industry players had attributed this to hesitation of businesses to invest in the first half of last year.

The industry is expecting around $9 billion in revenues or a growth of 26% for 2010 amid expectations of a recovery.

StarTek is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and operates 18 facilities in North America.

Services include customer care, sales support, complex order processing, accounts receivable management, and technical support. Source
